What's Your Favourite Tone Generator?

Mine is the good old SC-55. Although it lacks modern features and polyphony, it’s the sound source that most DOS-era composers expect you to use. Supporting GS instead of plain old General Midi is also a plus.

I haven’t used a real sc55

Currently used:

Soundcanvas va/sc8820
As can be seen from the above:

sc55 -> sc88 ->8850/8820/va

That’s a huge change What really draws me to these software is certain “video games”

I also learned that these were actually flagship sound modules that were very popular in the 90s (but that wasn’t enough to tempt me, because in order to learn about these I opted for CD-ROM samples)

Since the Nintendo GBA era, a large number of sc88 and jv1080 have been adopted into games

Now, I’m not particularly familiar with these software either

So, what I said on the home page is correct:

“I can only handle simple SMF”

Finally, I am very sorry for not being able to provide a “real hardware experience”, but sharing experience can always make people feel better.

Thank you for posting and sharing your experience
